Brighton residents will have acess to:

Benefits and affordability of co-living

Our offering a contributes towards meeting the city’s need for affordable housing and affordable private rent, in line with Brighton & Hove’s housing policy. Co living, can be an inherently more affordable option for those forced or seeking to rent for longer, for those who wish to benefit from the proximity to the city and transport, and to live and work in a quality environment with lifestyle facilities and a  community included.

The amenities that come with the co living package mean that it cannot be easily compared with either traditional HMOs or flats. The space available to each resident is considerably more than a typical one-bedroom flat, with all the added benefits described above.

Benefits to the community:

 Improved environment and public realm

Most occupiers are either retiring or have an arrangement in place to move therefore the proposals offer a fantastic opportunity to improve Melbourne Street. We have proposed to improve the pedestrian footpath around the building and have included green areas throughout the urban village, including 1500m² of sedum green roof space. This brings various environmental benefits including the ability to capture airborne pollutants and CO2 - improving air quality - and the ability to significantly reduce the surface run off of rainfall.

Long-term occupation

The aim is to attract long term occupiers (12 month tenancies) to build our community.

A perfect neighbour

The whole building will be managed by an experienced operator with 24/7 staff and clear channels of communication with neighbours. This not only improves the safety of the area but also avoids antisocial issues that can arise in HMOs that have absentee landlords.

Melbourne St will also have co working facilities open for public membership as well as a café ideal for breakfasts and lunches.

A cycle-friendly development

Walking and cycling will be encouraged with our dedicated bike stores and easy access to the rest of Brighton via walking or public transport. Residents will also gain membership to our electric car club, as we strive to reduce our carbon footprint.
